A Ventura County Superior Court judge on Monday ordered the release of the names of county government retirees drawing pensions of more than $100,000 a year, then delayed the disclosure until a higher court rules.
“If I grant this and any appeals court overturns it, the information is out,” Superior Court Judge Henry Walsh told attorneys arguing over the court order sought by the Ventura County Taxpayers Association.
Walsh said the public has the right to know information on pensions and compensation when public money is involved. But he agreed to delay the release because an appellate ruling on the same issue in a separate Sacramento County case is expected in less than 90 days.
Once the 3rd District of the California Court of Appeal makes that decision, Walsh said, he would reconsider the matter.
